De Long Terrace Homes
Habitat for Humanity San Francisco (HHSF) is currently building twelve single-family homes on De Long Street in San Francisco's Outer Mission neighborhood. The homes are being constructed, in three phases, on surplus land purchased from Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) along the Daly City line. Architect John Schlesinger, A.I.A, has designed the homes to fit into the existing neighborhood.
Like all Habitat for Humanity projects, each home will be built by Habitat volunteers and partner families. HHSF is also collaborating with another nonprofit, Hearth Homes, to construct three Universal Design homes in Phase II. Universal Design features accommodate the needs of residents with permanent mobility impairments. Specific Universal Design features on the Habitat homes include front entrance ramps, roll-in showers, lever door handles and a bedroom and living space on the first floor.
HHSFÕs De Long Terrace homes will provide first-time homeownership for twelve working families earning 40-60 percent of San Francisco's median income. All Habitat partner families contribute "sweat equity" hours toward the construction of their own homes and will purchase their homes at cost and with interest-free mortgage loans.
